Artist's Comments

Two old oaktrees on a field near Hilversum/The Netherlands on a misty morning in October, one very much alive and the other a skeleton.

It would be better if it was just the dead one, and maybe in black and white... But otherwise, very good!

Wow... wicked!
That tree was bloody nice :|

For ingen går ut av livet i livet.

I have to say that I like having the other tree in the background. It sort of would represent a life vs. death sort of juxtaposition, which adds another layer of interest to the image! That haze is wonderful. It adds a nice element to the picture, making it a bit more mysterious than it would be without. Good job! I like it! :)

Thanks a lot for your suggestion and your praise. - Well, I am no fan of b&w, but have taken quite a few shots of the dead tree on its own. Perhaps I shall present one of them at another moment or on my other gallery. This time I liked to have both, because it had a certain symbolic meaning for me. And the haze came out better.

I am very pleased you are so positive about the shot.

I am very glad with your reaction. It represents a good understanding of why I chose this version out of my many shots of both trees.
Actually you have some very nice shots in your gallery! Keep up the good work!

Life is just waiting around for the next disaster. The only consolation is, one of these times it'll be fatal.

I like the symbolic idea, but I have to agree with ~Kauma that the picture would probably be more visually powerful with only the dead tree in it. Because the silhouette of that is just perfect against the misty background, the DoF is just right and the tree is perfectly sharp. Everything fits for that tree so my eyes want to feast on the dead one and not see the somewhat blurry green oak in the background. That may sound like I'm simply more facinated by dead then by life, but I assure you that my comment is purely about the visual ! ;)
